What is an IH (Induction Heating) rice/pressure cooker? How are they different to conventional pressure rice cookers?

IH rice/pressure cookers are also classified as pressure cookers. All pressure cookers basically build pressure inside the pot to cook food. This process enables the rice cooker to reach a higher boiling point than when it is at a standard pressure (1 atm/105 Pa->100 degrees celsius). Pressure cookers can reach 120 to 150 degrees celsius. IH rice/pressure cookers build more pressure, and thus have higher boiling point than a conventional pressure rice cooker. IH pressure cookers use induction heating technology (induction coils build electromagnetic induction to heat up the whole stainless steel inner pot), whereas conventional pressure cookers use a heating pan to heat up the inner pot.

 3. What are the benefits of IH pressure cookers?

As explained in FAQ 2, the rice cookers can reach higher boiling points. Not only does it reach a higher boiling point, but it shortens the time of cooking. When food/grain is cooked at higher heat within a short time, the food becomes softer and tender. As the whole inner pot (bottom and sides) is heated up instead of only bottom of the the inner pot (conventional rice/pressure cookers use a heat pan on the bottom), the rice is more evenly cooked. This is what makes the Cuckoo very popular in international markets.

  2. Love it 5 Star Review

When I started searching around to buy a rice cooker, many people told me to get a CUCKOO rice cooker. I did, and it makes me love rice since. I'm not a rice person, but since the first rice I cooked, I keep telling my family and friends how best the rice it made. I used it to cook soups, sticky rice, porridge and stew dishes. The pressure function makes my braised dishes so tender and delicious.

  4. High Quality Build & Dependable Cooking 5 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Apr 2022

After being bitten by an Indiegogo scam, I was hesitant to buy a pricey rice cooker again. But the reviews and videos on YouTube encouraged me to go for a Cuckoo. I am glad that I bought the CRP-CHSS1009FN.

It is an exceptionally well-designed rice cooker with quality build materials and it cooks rice perfectly every time. I have also tried using the Indian variety of rice which I love called Sona Masoori. With a bit of fine tuning, I could get the perfect texture and flavour as advertised on the product.

I am thrilled with my purchase and would highly recommend it!

  5. For all the asian mum's 5 Star Review

I was never a rice person until I started eating rice from this cooker. The rice is cooked to perfection and tastes delicious, fluffy and fragrant. I loved it to much I bought the same for my mum, which she too loves. It's hard to impress my asian mum, but this cooker is the first time I haven't heard her complain.

  7. Cookbook required. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Jun 2021

We love our Cuckoo CHSS1009FN model and have really enjoyed the 10cup size and GABA option which we use all the time. We have cooked several grains in our machine, but I would really, really appreciate a cook book to show me how to use the different settings to their full potential. For example, the function of bread making, and chicken soup? I need to increase my confidence in using this machine more fully. I have searched the Internet, but am unable to source any recipes or instructions relating to this particular machine. Can anyone help me with this dilemma please. PS I live in Australia.

  8. Going to take a while 4 Star Review

Posted by on 4th May 2020

If you want to put rice in and press the right button then you get great rice every time.
This machine is a lot more than just a rice cooker, we have already made some great one pot meals with it. It is very versatile but is going to take a while to learn how to use it to its full capability.
The only thing is the coating on the pot as I have already scratched mine but don't know how as I have been careful with it.

  9. Love tasty rice 5 Star Review

I’m very happy to get new models. I hope I can use this for a while without a problem like my 9 years old one!

  10. Perfect. So very grateful. Bought the IH 10 Cup 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Apr 2019

I love it!! For somebody who lacks time to prepare meals for a busy working day ahead this machine is awesome. I have to get up by 5 in the morning and leave by 6:30 for a 12 hour work day. Without this machine I will go to work on many occasions not having prepared well enough the day before. Losing breakfast or having to eat fast food. For that reason I am already seeing the financial rewards of using quality equipment like this little beauty. I can soak grain overnight and cook to perfection before I leave. Or I can cook it the night before and the machine keeps it warm for me until I am ready to eat. Today I ate brown rice that was keeping warm for the last two days!! Haha, no problem. I wouldn’t do that with meat but I cooked brown rice with pumpkin and it tasted even better than it did when I first cooked it. I’ve made a couple of bone stocks so far. Pigs feet one time and beef bone the next. 1-2 hours is all it needs. The Multi cook option is great if you’re recooking previously cooked grains with some fresh additions like vegetables and flavourings/sauces. Just set the time for 10 minutes, add a little stock/water and flavouring to recook. It’s not loud at all. When cooking finishes it does have to depressurise which gives a hissing sound but that’s it. This baby does all it’s cooking in silence. I live mostly alone so I do appreciate the little bit of chat the machine gives me when I turn it on and when food is ready. Haha, lonely guy. The automatic sterilisation is a dream. The cooking pot should still be cleaned out after removing food but if you’ve only cooked grains and vegetables (not meat) then there is no need to clean the upper parts of the cooker. If you make stock or cook with meats then you will have to do some more cleaning to the other internal components. Overall I give this a 10 out of 10 for the happiness and confidence it gives me to be ready and prepared each day. Being able to keep things warm like it does is a gem. Cook anytime and you know your food will be perfect no matter when you’re ready. Take what you need at the time and you can leave the food in the pot to stay healthily warm for later. I’ve left my brown rice with pumpkin and seasonings in the pot for 52 hours (the pot displays how long it has kept it warm) and the food was even better than before. My best interests are kept with this machine and that’s why I call it my Mum # 2. Haha. Glad I took the risk and sensed that this was the better option for me than a Tiger.l like to cook whole grains frequently and so the Cuckoo to me seemed the best of the best for that. I’m just happy that it can still do so much more too. Cuckoo thank you!
